Embark on an Epic Adventure!
Traverse the Untamed Beauty of the Wild East Rodungla Trek.
The Wild East Rodungla Trek is an exhilarating adventure that takes trekkers through some of Bhutan’s most pristine and diverse landscapes. This trek is known for its challenging terrain, rich cultural encounters, and breathtaking natural beauty.
This trek takes you across the top of eastern Bhutan following an important trade route that was used before the construction of the National Highway. Although the Rodung La Trek does not reach very high altitudes, it remains challenging due to its steep climbs and descents. The trail takes you from Bumthang in Central Bhutan to Trashiyangtse in the far eastern reaches of the kingdom.
Once a vital trade road, the route has now fallen into disuse and is primarily a hiking trail. It passes through alpine and bamboo forests, meadows, mountain passes, villages, and temples, offering hikers an incredible array of biodiversity to appreciate. The trek also provides the opportunity to visit remote dzongs (fortresses/monasteries). The hike typically takes 9 days to complete and is best undertaken in winter between October and early November or in spring between April and early May.
