Zhemgang

Birding, jungle and the golden langur

  • Royal Manas National Park
  • Golden langur
  • Nabji-Korphu community trek
  • World-class birding

Zhemgang is a forested central-southern district that descends from cool hills toward the subtropical plains, making it one of the richest regions in Bhutan for nature and wildlife. Much of it lies within or beside Royal Manas National Park, the oldest and most biodiverse protected area in the country.

It is one of the finest birding destinations in the Himalaya, with several hundred recorded species, and a stronghold of the rare golden langur, a beautiful primate found only in this part of the world. The community-run Nabji-Korphu trek offers a rewarding low-altitude cultural and wildlife walk through remote, welcoming villages.

Steeped in old traditions and surrounded by pristine jungle, Zhemgang is a paradise for birdwatchers, naturalists and travellers seeking the wild, subtropical south of Bhutan.
