Bhutan has a single international airport at Paro (airport code PBH), tucked into a narrow Himalayan valley at 2,235 metres. Two carriers operate here: the national airline Druk Air and the private Bhutan Airlines.
Where you can fly from
Direct flights connect Paro with a handful of regional hubs — most commonly Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra and Guwahati in India, Kathmandu in Nepal, and Bangkok, Singapore and Dhaka further afield. Routes and frequencies change with the season, and most travellers connect through Delhi, Kolkata, Bangkok or Singapore.
The famous Paro landing
The approach to Paro is one of the most dramatic in the world. The aircraft banks between forested ridges and terraced hillsides before dropping onto the valley floor, and only a small number of specially certified pilots are authorised to fly it. Flights operate in daylight only and are occasionally delayed by weather, so we always build a buffer day into itineraries around your international connections.
Seats are limited and sell out fast in spring and autumn, so we book your Paro flights as early as possible once your trip is confirmed.
