Staying connected in Bhutan is easy in the towns and main valleys — and part of the charm is that it gently fades away in the remote and high-altitude areas.
Mobile and SIM cards
Two networks — the state-owned B-Mobile and the private TashiCell — cover the towns and most main routes. A prepaid tourist SIM with a data package is inexpensive and quick to buy on arrival with your passport, and your guide can help you set it up. 4G is widespread in urban centres and along the western tourist circuit.
Wi-Fi and connectivity
Most hotels, cafés and restaurants in the main valleys offer Wi-Fi, though speeds vary and it can be slow at peak times. As you travel to the remote eastern valleys, climb into the mountains or set out on trek, coverage becomes patchy or disappears altogether. Many travellers come to enjoy this as a rare chance to disconnect. If you need to stay reachable, let us know and we will plan the itinerary around reliable connection points.
