Sarpang

Subtropical plains and the Gelephu gateway

  • Gelephu border town
  • Gelephu Mindfulness City
  • Royal Manas access
  • Subtropical lowlands

Sarpang is a subtropical district on Bhutan's southern border, a warm belt of plains, forest and farmland centred on the growing town of Gelephu. It serves as a second major overland gateway to the country and is fast becoming one of the most talked-about regions in the kingdom.

Gelephu is the site of the ambitious Gelephu Mindfulness City, a landmark project envisioned as a special administrative and economic region that blends Bhutanese values and Gross National Happiness with sustainable, mindful development. The district also borders Royal Manas National Park, offering excellent birding and lowland wildlife.

Green, low-lying and rapidly evolving, Sarpang combines a strategic gateway location with rich subtropical nature — a fascinating window into the future direction of Bhutan.
