Bhutan has four distinct seasons and each has its own argument. The classic answer is March–May or September–November, but it leaves a lot out.
Spring (March–May)
Rhododendrons on every hillside, clear morning views of the Himalayan giants, the Paro Tshechu in late March or early April. The classic time, and the busiest.
Summer / monsoon (June–August)
Underrated. Yes, it rains — usually in the afternoon — but the country is at its greenest, prices are lower, lodges are quieter, and it's the best season for textile and craft tours.
Autumn (September–November)
Crisp air, dry trails, the Thimphu and Punakha tshechus, the clearest Himalayan views of the year. Our most-requested season.
Winter (December–February)
The quiet season. Cold in the highlands, mild in the south, perfect for birding and for Punakha Drubchen in February.
